Instead of buying an exfoliating product to which my face may react badly, a wonderful idea popped into my head; exfoliating gloves. So I popped into the shop and got a nice pink pair that should do the job of sloughing off those dead skin cells pretty well. I’ll keep you posted!

Baby Step 10: Green Tea
While I’m waiting for my fast, I want to try and get into the habit of drinking green tea. I’ve heard it tastes horrible, and that’s not encouraging. However, @AcneSkinSite says it helps to fight inflammation, soothe acne and lighten skin, so you should have 2-3 cups of green tea in a day.
Sounds worth the try, no?
Baby Step 9: The Fruit Fast
You’ve probably heard of the juice cleanse, made popular by Gwyneth Paltrow and other Hollywood celebs. However, experts say a juice cleanse is not healthy. It is better to eat fruit than just drink juice. They gave sound medical explanation for this (Google it) so I’m going to cleanse my system by taking nothing but fruit for a week. Pineapple, pawpaw, banana, watermelon, apple… all day for 7 days, accompanied by lots of water.
I’ll probably lose some weight, so I’m waiting until after I’ve consumed all my wedding anniversary cake and other goodies J
Baby Step 8: Red Meat Is Not My Friend
I’ve always known this, and I’ve been a huge fan of chicken, turkey and fish. Unfortunately, my hubby cannot stand poultry in soup, so since I got married I’ve been cooking my soups with beef. Any wonder my skin has deteriorated? All those free radicals!
I’ve decided to make the ultimate sacrifice. When I do eat “swallow”, I’ll have no meat. I’ll ignore the beef and stick to the fish in the soup. I’ll have to cook with more of it, though. The health benefits of reducing red meat in your diet extend beyond healthy skin. Try it!
Happy Wedding Anniversary to Me!
Two years. How time flies. All I can say is thank you Jehovah for Your grace and mercy, and for Your many blessings. Let Your will always be done in my family, and let our lives bring glory to You.
Baby Step 7: Ditching Ponds Powder
I gave up compact powder and foundation because it stains my baby when I’m snuggling and kissing him- which I steal out of my home office to do very often during the day. I’ve been using the pink Ponds Powder, and I think that’s what is making me dark.
So I’m doing the unthinkable; going without any powder whatsoever, all day.
However I will still have to get powder for events, and church on Sunday. I’m thinking of my first love, Black Opal. It rose in my esteem in 2005 when I saw it sitting on the very smooth, fair skin of my pastor’s beautiful wife. Since then I’ve tried Tara, and I’ve also used Sleek. I still think Black Opal is awesome. This time though, I’ll be going for loose powder instead of compact.
What’s your favourite powder?
Baby Step 6: Bye-Bye Vaseline
I’ve been using Vaseline Sheer Infusion for over a year now. Before that, I was a Dove Lotion faithful. Neither of them has impressed me, so I’m looking to try something different. E-45 dermatological cream is at the top of my list right now. Cheryl Cole swears by it, and my good friend Obiajulu (who is even naturally lighter than I am) uses it too. I’m also considering Shea Butter by Vanity Oils.
I would have gone for Fair and White, but it lightens the skin and I’m staying far away from hydroquinone and kojic acid. I’m hoping that my natural complexion will be restored without any lightening agent. What do you think?
Baby Steps to Better Skin – Update
I broke out, no thanks to coconut oil. My face appeared to be getting better for a bit, and then wham! Pimples even on parts of my face where I’d never had them. I’m not having that thing anywhere near my face ever again. Will think up something else for the scrub; maybe substitute with olive oil, or get another recipe altogether. Sad much.
Baby Step 5: Exfoliate
The skin needs a little helping along when it comes to getting rid of dead cells and letting that glow shine through. My facial skin is oily, so I’ll need to do this about twice a week. Again, I have no idea which product to buy yet, so I’m going to make a simple exfoliating scrub at home, using just granulated sugar and coconut oil.
First I’ll place a hot wet towel over my face to open my pores. Then I’ll apply the scrub over my entire face, scrub carefully, and rinse thoroughly. Hello new skin!
Baby Steps to Better Skin- Update
So far, so good! I’ve been cleansing and moisturizing as planned, and my face looks better already. Still not as light and bright as it used to be though, but we’re hopeful!
