Every person has their way of getting through desert experiences, and for me it has always been music. I listen to it everywhere: when I’m doing laundry, in the kitchen when I’m cooking, in the shower, even at night before I fall asleep. Hymns, old and contemporary, are my favourites (I can see my friends chuckling). These songs have been with me in the night times of my life.
Recently my friend Timendu sent me Natalie Grant’s Desert Song and I did not listen to it until a few days before 2015 ended.
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides.
I have over 1000 songs on my phone and that’s how this one would have been lost in there had the Lord not brought it up in shuffle. LOL.
And this is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved of more worth than gold
So refine me, Lord through the flames
It spoke so directly to me, I went into radical change mode. “I cannot have these songs in my phone and rarely hear them ah ahn!”
So I made a decision to bring the stuff that feeds and heals me closer. I moved my general interest music to my laptop and deleted them from my phone, leaving only my spiritual songs and plenty space for my Word files (I have David Ogbueli, Andrew Wommack, Bimbo Odukoya and Paul Adefarasin amongst others that I haven’t listened to!)
So 525 songs were moved, leaving 492. Yeah, I didn’t realise I had more general interest music than spiritual.
I’m ready to enjoy new, faith-boosting music this year. For now though, I still have Desert Song on repeat.
I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
What changes will you make for growth this year? Do leave a comment 🙂
Thank you so much. Rich song!
Thanks Lizzie 🙂
