Proverbs 31 Babe: Why You Must Have Your Own Money

  1. You Are a Person.

Yes, you are a human being. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says “And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labour, for these are gifts from God.” Being a woman doesn’t exclude you or mean that the gift of God doesn’t apply to you. The “virtuous and capable wife” in Proverbs 31 knew this. She went about her various businesses with zest and vigour, and applying her God given aptitude she invested her earnings, creating multiple streams of income and multiplying her revenue! Have a look:

-“She finds wool and flax and busily spins it.”

-“She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.”

– She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night.

– She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants

Man or woman, there is dignity in labour. God has made it so, and is well pleased to see it. Get with the programme.

Proverbs 31 Babe: The Virtue of Waking Up Early

“She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work…” Proverbs 31:15

I’m an owl. Naturally I do my best work when I’m at my desk late into the night, and in the mornings I prefer to sleep in. There is nothing wrong with this, per se; after all we can’t all be larks. Unfortunately, time is a precious commodity, and the world starts counting time in the morning. Accordingly, wise people wake up with the world- early birds who are rewarded with the proverbial worm.

A few years ago I paid attention for the first time to the fact that the Virtuous Woman of Proverbs 31 was also an early bird, and I thought, “If her results are anything to go by, joining this tribe is a move definitely worth considering.”

Now, I’m a self-made Morning Person, and I’ll share with you why and how.

Billary: 7 Moving Excerpts from Carl Bernstein’s A Woman in Charge

“Their friends observed a remarkable chemistry. ‘She’s the one that gets up in the morning with a dark cloud over her head, and he gets up with the bright sun,’ said a photojournalist who followed the Clintons in Arkansas and in Washington. ‘As the day goes on, he’s the one who falls into a funk and she’s the one who will refocus him. It’s one of those things that if they had never met neither of them would have reached the heights that they did.’” Continue reading…
