Whether you’ve been desiring this baby, or the pregnancy came as a surprise, as long as you intend to have an enjoyable pregnancy (well, as enjoyable as pregnancy can be!), and give birth to a healthy baby, there are things you need to get started with as soon as possible:
- Start taking your prenatal vitamins immediately. Your child will be using up what your body has, so you need to replenish or your body will suffer. If you’ve been trying to conceive, you may have been on a combination of vitamins, or at least on folic acid. Otherwise, once you see a doctor you’ll be given calcium, iron, and folic acid. However, even before you start seeing an OB/GYN you can and should start taking folic acid immediately. Doctors advise women who are planning to get pregnant to start taking folic acid supplements about 3 to 6 months before conception; not just when you get pregnant. Taking your folic acid before and early on in pregnancy can reduce risk of brain and spine birth defects by up to 70 percent.
You’ve probably heard many things about “Hebrew women delivery”. I’ve even heard of women refusing caesarean sections because they want to “deliver like the Hebrew women.”
It’s not a bad thing to want a vaginal delivery – it certainly has its advantages –but when this desire becomes spiritualized to the point of demonizing Caesarean sections and insisting on a vaginal birth or nothing, it is nothing short of ridiculous.
It becomes even more tragic when you settle down to read your Bible and realize that the entire “deliver like the Hebrew women” movement is largely driven by ignorance. How do I mean? Read more

The body can’t break down gas as it does food, so you suffer the discomfort of a distended abdomen. I used to think water retention also causes bloating, but doctors say it’s mainly gas in adults.
It is supposed to be temporary, but if you find yourself suffering from the bloats often, here are a few changes you can make.
The heart is the body’s most important organ. When the heart stops… it’s over.
An extremely hard worker, the heart pumps about 23, 000 liters of blood around the body, and beats an estimated 100, 000 times each day- no breaks or vacations!
As such, we should be doing everything in our power to help our hearts do their job, instead of making it more difficult with poor habits and lifestyles.
I recently wrote an article on the most popular drink in the world after water. Although coffee is not the most popular drink in the world after water, it is one of the most popular.
Coffee beans are the seeds of berries from the coffea plant, native to tropical Africa, and Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius and Réunion in the Indian Ocean. It was originally cultivated here in Africa before it was exported to other countries. Now, it is grown in over 70 countries.
In Nigeria we favour instant coffee as opposed to brewing our own at home. Nescafé, the most popular instant coffee brand in the world, is the leading brand here too.
Being a coffee lover myself, I thought it necessary to remind us of 12 scientifically proven reasons why coffee is actually great for. Continue reading…
