What If You Could Say Goodbye to Period Pain Forever?

When my BFF had her first pain-free period, I wished I could ask this question of every woman I knew: what if you could say goodbye to period pain forever?

All she did was make a single lifestyle change — she chose a dietary supplement I had just started promoting. It doesn’t cure anything. It elevates your body to peak state of health, and then your body does what it was designed to do: cleanse, heal, and rebalance itself.

She was simply supporting my new side hustle, but after 20 years of excruciating period pain (we’ve been friends since we were 12 years old) she had her first pain-free period ever.

You see, I was excited to start my new hustle. You would be too if you met the people I met and heard their stories.

Like the story of Monica’s son who had to be hospitalized every month, sometimes twice a month, because of his sickle cell crises. His genotype is still the same but with this supplement, he hasn’t had a single crisis in over two years.

Like the story of Chris whose blood sugar was so high that ants were gathering around his urine in the toilet bowl. Two weeks after cutting down on carbs and taking this supplement daily, his blood sugar was down to normal and has stayed within healthy limits.

Like the story of Funmi who used to have only 2 periods in a year because of PCOS, and had been trying unsuccessfully for years to have a 2nd child after her daughter. Not only did her periods become regular with continued use of this supplement, she conceived and now has a baby boy!

Yes, I was excited about my new mission. If you know me you know I love this kind of thing, making a difference in people’s lives.

So I made a decision to offer this supplement to everyone who was open to trying it. And after just few weeks on it, my BFF’s period came with zero cramps! Whoa!

What I love the most about this particular brand is that you don’t have to take the supplement in capsule form if you don’t want to.

What my BFF got (and what has now become my Number 1 choice) is the supplement already infused into that antioxidant-rich beverage that’s even healthier than water; green tea.

Wait, green tea is healthier than water? That doesn’t make sense! There’s nothing better than water!

Actually, there is: you get all the benefits of water AND all the benefits of the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that exist in green tea!

Now imagine drinking this every day, PLUS the transformational benefits of this amazing supplement — the closest thing to nutritional perfection you can put in your mouth — infused into it. You can’t taste it, you can’t smell it, but it’s there and it’s working. Pure gold.

Meet the Boss: Kafilat Umar, Sherry Organics

Kafilat Umar, a barrister & solicitor, was excited when the world began to go organic because it meant she could put her skills as an organic formulator to good use. And that’s exactly what she did when she started Sherry Organics in September 2015.  I’ve heard people rave about Sherry Organics goat milk and orange soap, mango body souffle, and other products, and I found it intriguing.

The Power of Small Changes

It doesn’t always have to be big changes. Every little change to your daily routine counts. Here are 5 small things you can do today for your tomorrow:

1. Drink more water: Use a timer to remind you if you need it. Your brain, hair, skin, hormones…your entire body in fact, will be better for it.

2. Skip body lotions: Go for body oils instead. Did you know that body lotions are 70%water? Your lotion is basically water + oil. The reason you can’t see that is because an emulsifier is used to bind them together, giving the final product a creamy consistency. So when you apply oil on your wet skin, you get a lotion- without the emulsifier, which you don’t need as it does absolutely nothing for your skin, anyway.

3. Exercise: The main thing that scares us about exercise is it appears to be something we need to put on gym clothes and go to the gym to do. Get a dance video and work up a sweat in your living room. Buy a skipping rope. Or simply go for a brisk walk- my favourite any day. Don’t forget your music: get good earphones and go!

4. Read: Again, books scare people. Start by reading articles. Pick a good blog and read one post a day. Subscribe to a magazine (@barows21 will deliver to your door if you live in Lagos). Join a book club and read a few chapters each week. Reading is life-changing.

5. Speak God’s Word to yourself: Take a closer look at Psalm 23, or 27, or 91. David wasn’t praying, he was simply declaring what he believed. I use God’fessions by Goke Coker, it has the Bible verses on one side and the confessions on the other. Tell God you believe His Word. I can’t tell you how starting your day this way will infuse your spirit with light and power. Let there be a “yes, Lord!” in your belly each morning!

Baby Step 9: The Fruit Fast

You’ve probably heard of the juice cleanse, made popular by Gwyneth Paltrow and other Hollywood celebs. However, experts say a juice cleanse is not healthy. It is better to eat fruit than just drink juice. They gave sound medical explanation for this (Google it) so I’m going to cleanse my system by taking nothing but fruit for a week. Pineapple, pawpaw, banana, watermelon, apple… all day for 7 days, accompanied by lots of water.

I’ll probably lose some weight, so I’m waiting until after I’ve consumed all my wedding anniversary cake and other goodies J

Baby Step 8: Red Meat Is Not My Friend

I’ve always known this, and I’ve been a huge fan of chicken, turkey and fish. Unfortunately, my hubby cannot stand poultry in soup, so since I got married I’ve been cooking my soups with beef. Any wonder my skin has deteriorated? All those free radicals!

I’ve decided to make the ultimate sacrifice. When I do eat “swallow”, I’ll have no meat. I’ll ignore the beef and stick to the fish in the soup. I’ll have to cook with more of it, though. The health benefits of reducing red meat in your diet extend beyond healthy skin. Try it!

Baby Step 6: Bye-Bye Vaseline

I’ve been using Vaseline Sheer Infusion for over a year now. Before that, I was a Dove Lotion faithful. Neither of them has impressed me, so I’m looking to try something different. E-45 dermatological cream is at the top of my list right now. Cheryl Cole swears by it, and my good friend Obiajulu (who is even naturally lighter than I am) uses it too. I’m also considering Shea Butter by Vanity Oils.

I would have gone for Fair and White, but it lightens the skin and I’m staying far away from hydroquinone and kojic acid. I’m hoping that my natural complexion will be restored without any lightening agent. What do you think?

Baby Step 5: Exfoliate

The skin needs a little helping along when it comes to getting rid of dead cells and letting that glow shine through. My facial skin is oily, so I’ll need to do this about twice a week. Again, I have no idea which product to buy yet, so I’m going to make a simple exfoliating scrub at home, using just granulated sugar and coconut oil.

First I’ll place a hot wet towel over my face to open my pores. Then I’ll apply the scrub over my entire face, scrub carefully, and rinse thoroughly. Hello new skin!
